My designs take inspiration from the fictional Universes in the series as well the author’s original influence, the epic poem Paradise Lost by John Milton, though with a contemporary finish that would be suited to a potential re-launch from the publishers looking to introduce the modern classic that is His Dark Materials to a new generation of readers.

As well as producing three book dust jacket designs for each individual title in the trilogy, I also mocked-up a trilogy case containing the series for sale in a professional marketing context. I have a personal and ongoing interest in Norse mythology and steampunk aesthetic, both of which are prominent in Pullman’s seminal work, and which inspired the intricate pattern designs and gold colour palette seen in my responding work.
